Holiday Tips...

-- Happy Holidays -- Here are a few tips to keep your pets safe during the Holiday Season: ** Place your Christmas Tree in a room where pets can't get to it, or keep lights, ornaments, tinsel, etc. up from their reach. Pets think that we humans have put up the tree just for them! Hey, look what Mom and Dad got us to play with! Keep and eye on extension cords, light cords, etc. Some pets may want to snack on them! Not a good idea! ** If you use any of the commercial preparations to keep the tree fresh, keep your pets from drinking the tree water. It can cause tummy upsets or worse! ** House plants can cause a danger at this time of year. Keep the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center's phone number by your phone (1-888-426-4435). Keep friends and relatives (and you) from feeding treats (cookies, cake, candy, rich foods) to your pets. It may cause an upset tummy! If they (or you) want to give a treat, keep pet treats around to give! ** If you use an Ice Melt to clear your sidewalks of snow and ice, please have your guests (and you and your family) wipe their shoes thoroughly before entering! Ice Melt (along with antifreeze) is poisonous to your pets! Remember, our little ones are always sniffing around on the floor and it doesn't take much to make them ill! ** Doors are opening and closing more often than usual this time of year! Always pay extra attention to where your pets are. We have a sign here at the Shelter that says, "I can make it to the door in 3.5 seconds -- can you?" Believe me, it's so true! Please keep an eye on your pets when you have company. That way, you won't have to be calling saying, "My pet is missing -- what do I do?" Also, if your pet isn't microchipped, please do so. It may save his/her life The Holiday Season is a great time of year -- please remember it is also a very, very stressful time of year for our pets! Take time out to spend with your pets. We wish you all safe and happy holidays! ● ● ● ● ●
